On Thursday, September 1, students from Mrs. Watson’s class at Clarksville Elementary School made a visit to Lapping Park for a special monarch butterfly celebration!  Students learned about the monarch waystation built by employees of Duke Energy and Clarksville Parks Department, the problems facing the monarch butterflies, and had a little fun in the great outdoors.

Students got the opportunity to build a butterfly craft, go on a nature hike, and helped the Clarksville Parks Department release dozens of live monarch butterflies in the park. Duke Energy employees who volunteered for the project also earned a $500 Duke Energy Foundation grant for Clarksville Elementary! CES used the funds to purchase materials for Mrs. Watson’s class to learn about butterflies!

Thank you to Duke Energy and the Clarksville Parks Department for giving our CES students this awesome opportunity! #ThinkClarksville
