CLARKSVILLE, Ind.—Clarksville Elementary School will be launching a two-week summer reading program called Camp CES: Let’s Read S’More, thanks to a $16,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.

The camping-themed program will focus on helping 20 incoming 2nd graders who need extra support in reading for two weeks prior to school starting (July 23rd-Aug. 3rd). After that, those students will receive weekly reading tutoring for the first semester of school.

“We are so excited to provide this fun learning opportunity for our students,” Principal Mindy Dablow said. “It will be a great way to provide these students with a jump start in preparing for the new school year.”

Clarksville’s program is one of 24 that received Duke Energy Foundation grants for summer and school-year reading initiatives. This grant is part of an approximately $400,000 investment the Duke Energy Foundation is making in summer literacy programs.
